DEATH OF AN EARLY SETTLER

DIED - At his home in Warren township on Saturday, June 5, 1897, at 11 p.m., John Farber, in the seventy second year of his age. His death was very sudden. He was in Chariton on Saturday and appeared in his usual health when he arrived home in the evening. About 9 o'clock at night he was taken sick and grew rapidly worse until he died at the hour named. The immediate cause of his death was heart failure.

The funeral took place at the family home in Warren township on Tuesday, the services being conducted by Rev. Dean, pastor of the Baptist church at Russell. Interment was in the Freedom cemetery.

John Farber was born in Sussex county, New Jersey, December 25, 1824. He moved when a young man to Franklin county, Ohio, where he married and in 1855 moved with his young family to Iowa, settling in Warren township in this county on the farm where he died.

Forty-two years a resident of Lucas county, he was widely known and respected, and the news of his death will be read with much regret by his old time neighbors and friends. He raised a large family, five sons and four daughters by his first marriage and one daughter by a second marriage survive him, all being present to pay the last sad tribute of respect to the departed father.

The sons are: James B. Farber of St. Joseph, Mo.; T. J. Farber of Lushton, Neb.; Caleb and Edward Farber of Hoxie, Kansas; and Albert Farber, who occupies the old home place in Warren township, with whom the father has lived for several years. The daughters are: Mrs. Minnie Wilson of Ottumwa; Mrs. Wm. Curtis of Russell; Mrs. Chas. Carpenter and Mrs. J. M. Mitchell of Warren township; and Anna Lyman of Chariton.

The Patriot joins all their neighbors and friends in expression of kindest sympathy, and records with deep sadness the passing away of the early pioneer settlers.
