Navy in World War II to serve as an Electician's Mate on board the U.S.S. Sisgbee in the Pacific. George returned as a Chief Petty Officer. He wed Neola Carter on September 23, 1949 in the Methodist Church in Silver Creek. To this union were born eight children: Clinton Allen, Lee Wayne, Scott Gilford, Neal Curtis, Lyndon Lale, Delois Jean, Kevin Kent and Duane Dexter.
