Henry Bascom Forrey, son of Henry and Christiana (Boger) Forrey, was born in Coshocton County, Ohio. He moved with his parents to Greencastle, Indiana where he attended college for 2 years. In 1856, the family moved to Marshall County, Iowa and Henry Bascom Fearing enlisted in Company B, Second Iowa Cavalry during the Civil War and participated in several battles. He was promoted to First Corporal in 1865 and was mustered out of the service in Selma, Alabama in 1865.

At the end of the Civil War he married Julia Ann Read on November 23, 1865 and in the fall of 1872, they travelled by covered wagon to settle on a farm in Jewell County, Kansas. They lived in a dugout for 2 years while building their large farm home for their 9 children. Henry held various township offices.

In 1907, he and Julia moved to Lincoln, Kansas. He died shortly thereafter and his body was returned to Jewell County where he was laid to rest in sight of the house where they had lived so long.
