OBITUARY; SUPERIOR EXPRESS, SUPERIOR, NEBRASKA - THURSDAY, AUGUST 10, 1950 - MRS. VAN ORNAM PASSED AWAY AUGUST 6
Ellen Annette Forrey, daughter of Henry Bascom and Julia Ann Forrey, was born May 18, 1873, in Jewell County, Kansas. At an early age she was baptized into the Christian Church at Olive Hill. She was married to Roy Leighton Van Ornam March 1, 1891, at Mankato, Kansas. To this union nine children, two boys and seven girls, were born. Except for two years spent in Nemaha County and four years in Cheyenne County, Kansas, she spent her entire life in or near this community living in Hardy 26 years. After the death of her husband in 1937, she moved to Superior and spent most of her time with her children. She became a member of the Methodist Church and WSCS in Superior. She passed away August 6, 1950 at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Harold Davidson, at the age of 77 years, 2 months and 19 days. Left to mourn her passing are eight children, her daughter, Julia preceded her in death; Donald Van Ornam, Hardy; Mrs. Mabel Davidson and Mrs. Eunice Clark, Superior; Louis Van Ornam, Ontario, Calif.; Mrs. Ida Koulas, Salt Lake City, Utah; Mrs. Ruth Powell, Delta, Colo.; and Mrs. Joy Hall, Grafenwohr Military Post Germany; four sisters and 2 brothers; also 30 grandchildren and eight great grandchildren. Services were held at the Denny Funeral Home in Superior, Wednesday, August 9, at 2:00 p.m. Music was furnished by Gordon Rashleigh of Hardy and Rev Alfred Rashleigh was the officiating minister. Acting as pallbearers were some of her grandsons. Interment was in the Rosemound Cemetery beside her husband.
