When she was 22, on April 10, 1881, Annie married 34-year-old Joe Simpson, who had moved to Kaufman County from DeKalb County, Tennessee. Annie and Joe made their living as farmers. While Joe farmed, Annie took care of the household and their growing family. Joe and Annie would have at least six chilren--Virgil, Earl, Claude, Ruth, Annis, and Faye. As the years went by, Joe persuaded Annie to move from Kaufman County to first Jack County and then Jackson County where he thought he could make a better living as a farmer. Annie probably agreed only with reluctance. She was the only one of Rufus and Martha's 11 children who moved any distance at all from Kaufman County.
Tragedy entered their lives when first their son Antis died in April 1921 and then their son Earl died in October of the same year. Joe died two years after his two sons in Jackson County on October 14, 1923. He was 76. Annie lived another 23 years. She died at the age of 87 on August 29, 1946, in Liberty County, Texas. Joe and Annie as well as four of their children--Earl, Ruth, Annis, and Fay--were all buried in the Memory Garden of Edna, Edna, Jackson County, Texas.
