Ava Miranda Hamilton was born on July 2, 1864, in Kaufman County, Texas. She was the ninth child of her parents Rufus Hamilton and Martha Ballard Hamilton. She was the granddaughter of Robert Shaw Hamilton and his wife Elizabeth Bethea Hamilton. She was also the granddaughter of Barclay Moorman Ballard and Mary Gillentine Ballard.

Ava grew up to marry John M. Nugent when she was approximately 21. She and John had three children--Lucy, Effie, and Clyde. The couple farmed in Kaufman County most of their married life.

Ava died at the age of 54 on February 15, 1920. In the 1920 Census, John, Ava, and their son Clyde are listed as living in Dallas, Dallas County. John is working as a watchman for the City of Dallas, and Clyde is working as an office clerk.

Ava was buried in Rader Cemetery not far from her parents' graves and many of her siblings'. John was later buried next to her fifteen years later.
