An Obituary from "Gateville Messenger & Star Forum", Thursday, November 23, 1978:

Jack C. Chappell, 57, died Thursday at his home in Gatesville of an apparent heart attack. He had been troubled with a heart ailment the last few years.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday at Scott's Funeral Home chapel and were conducted by Rev. Joe Broadway and Minister Rex Tilly.
Burial was in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Chappell, son of the late Mr. and Mrs. James M. Chappell, was born and reared in the Crawford community. After graduation from Crawford High School, he joined the U. S. Army on Sept. 30, 1940, and served throughout World War II. He was a staff sergeant when he left the military service on Feb. 2, 1946.
He married Miss Bonnie Reynolds in Waco on Nov. 27, 1942. They made their home in McGregor from 1946 to 1950 while Mr. Chappell was employed by the REA. He went to work at Fort Hood in 1950, when they moved to Gatesville.
Mr. Chappell retired at Fort Hood in 1971. For the last four years he had operated the Dietz Memorials firm in Gatesville.
Mr. Chappell was a Baptist and a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. A golfing enthusiast, he was a member of the Gatesville Country Club and its Men's Golf Association.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Mrs. Doloma Bloodworth of Grapevine and Mrs. Sharon Necessary of Gatesville; one son, Ricky James Chappell of Shreveport, La.; a brother, Joel Chappell of Troup; seven sisters, Mrs. Leslie Kirbo of Axtell, Mrs. Mattie Holcomb of McGregor, Mrs. Minnie Daniell of McGregor,
Mrs. Elsie Johnson of Waco, Mrs. Josie Middlebrook of Waco, Mrs. Alma Lee Jones of Crawford and Mrs. Johnnie Beebe of Trent; one granddaughter and six grandsons.
Pallbearers for Mr. Chappell's funeral were Norman Storm, Andy J. Taylor, Marvin Jones, Pete Botkin, Fred Dyer, Jr., Dr. A. G. Patterson, Euell Swift, Roy Day and O. W. Duke.
