J.M. Chappell, 73, died at his home in Crawford. Funeral services were held at the Baptist Church in Crawford. Rev. Harold Warren officiated, assisted by Rev. Sam Cluck of Waco. Burial was in Crawford Cemetery.
Survivors; His widow; eight daughters, Mrs. John Allison, Mrs. Cliff Holcomb, Mrs. Claude Johnson, all of McGregor, Mrs. Tom Kirbo of Axtell, Mrs. Claudie Daniels of Coryell, Mrs. A. C. Heatly of Trent, Mrs Josie Byrum of Waco, Mrs. Alma Jones of Crawford; two sons, Jack Chappell of McGregor and Joel Chappell of Troup; 42 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren; one brother, Rufus Chappell of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by one son, James T. Chappell.
Mr. Chappell was born in Arkansas and had lived in around Crawford for the past 35 years. He was a member of the Crawford Baptist Church.
Pallbearers were his grandsons. Amsler Funeral Home of McGregor and Crawford directed.
