Rufus (R.E.) "Slim" Barnett, 83, of Jonesboro, died July 6 at his residence.
Services were held at 10 a.m. Saturday at Scott's Funeral Home with the Rev. Wesley Jones officiating. Burial followed in Restland Cemetery.
Mr. Barnett was born Aug. 22, 1916, in Coryell County, the son of the late John Barnett and Zora Shirey Barnett.
He attended school in Gatesville and after leaving school, attended the G.I. School in Gatesville to learn the carpentry trade.
He worked in civil service at Fort Hood for about 40 years until his retirement.
He ranched full time after his retirement.
Survivors include a sister, Pearl Whisenhunt of Turnersville; four nephews; four nieces; numerous great-nephews and nieces; and numerous great great-nephews and great-great-nieces.
