Funeral services for Johnnie Barnett, 66, of Gatesville were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday at the First Baptist Church. Rev. Curtis Beaird and Rev. Frank Page officiated, and burial was in Restland Cemetery with Scott's in charge.
Mr. Barnett, a lifelong resident of the Gatesville area, died Tuesday morning in the local hospital. He had been in failing health for some time.
He worked for several years at Fort Hood, retiring there in 1970. He had since worked as a radio dispatcher for local law enforcement agencies.
Born June 18, 1914, in Coryell County, he was the son of Mrs. Zora Barnett and the late John Barnett and was reared in this area.
He married Miss Chlora Blacklock on July 16, 1932. They had resided in Gatesville since.
Long an active member of the First Baptist Church, he was a member of its board of deacons.
He also taught a Sunday School class for boys for a number of years.
Survivors include his wife; two sons, Quinton Barnett and Roger Barnett, both of Gatesville; his mother, Mrs. Zora Barnett of Gatesville; two sisters, Mrs. Dovie May Crouch of Bryan and Mrs. Martha Pearl Whisenhunt of Turnersville; one brother, R. E. Barnett of Ater; and five grandchildren.
Pallbearers for Mr. Barnett's funeral were Clayton Cannon, Billie Hale, Morris Bell, James Dixon, H. L. Wadkins and Judge Alton Chapman.
Honorary pallbearers were other deacons of the First Baptist Church.
