Death of Mrs. Fredericka Braatz
Mrs. Fredericka Braatz, resident of this vicinity since 1862, died at her home, 107 East Howard Street, Monday at 9:45 p.m. after an illness of several months.
Mrs. Braatz, who was 86 years of age, was born Jan 21, 1846 in Germany and came to this country with her parents at the age of 10 years. They settled near Watertown, Wis. In 1862, the family moved to Winona county where she was married to William Braatz, a Civil War veteran on Feb. 28, 1868.
They made their home in Pleasant Hill Township for 48 years. Mr. Braatz died in 1916. In 1931, Mrs. Braatz came to Winona where she had since made her home.
She is survived by eight children, Mrs. Hugh McNally and Mrs. Edward Farnholtz, Ridgeway; William Braatz, Witoka; Mrs. Paul Timm, Plainview; Mrs. George W. Davis, Pickwick; and Louis, Charles and Anna Braatz at home. One daughter, Mrs. Minnie Goltz, died Sept. 24, 1931.
Funeral services will be held at 1:30 p.m. at St. Martin's Lutheran Church, the Rev. Alfred W. Sauer conducting the services. Preliminary services will be held at the home at 1 p.m.
Burial will be in the Witoka Cemetery.
