A.C. Haberl, age 79, of West, passed away early Saturday morning, December 18, 1999 at Providence Health Center in Waco.

A rosary was recited Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption. Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated Monday at St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption with Rev. Ed Karasek as celebrant. Military graveside rites followed at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family received visitors from 4-6 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.

Mr. Haberl was born February 7, 1920 in Tours, the son of Anton and Marie Haberl. He married Margaret Holacka on January 31, 1945 in Coronado Beach, California. He was a Chief Petty Officer in the United States Navy for 20 years before retiring in 1961 having served during World War II in the Asian, Pacific and Cuban theaters. They then returned to West and he became the owner of Hab’s Dental Lab in Waco from 1962 to 1980. During that time he was also a professor and the founder of the dental lab program and TSTC. He then became an insurance agent for Texas Farm Bureau until he retired in 1997. He was a member of the Disabled American Veterans, the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post No. 4819 in West, the Fleet Reserve Assoc. Chapter #240; an active member of the West Kiwanis Club, and a volunteer at Hillcrest Hospital in West. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church of the Assumption in West. He enjoyed playing golf and being with his grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by a son, Timothy Haberl who died August 21, 1981.

He is survived by his wife, Marge Haberl of West; two sons, Malcolm Haberl and his wife Doris of Elm Mott, and Frank Haberl and his wife Renee of Lewisville; three daughters, Deborah Vochoska and her husband Kenneth, and Denice Kubacak and her husband Allan, all of West, and Dolores Nemec and her husband David of Waco; nine grandchildren, Paul Haberl and his wife Tara, Susan Haberl, Kenna Whitehead and her husband Kirk, Gregg Vochoska, Katie Kubacak, Christopher Kubacak, Lindsey Nemec and Ryan Nemec; three great-granddaughters, Madison and Meredith Haberl and Raegan Whitehead; and several nieces and nephews.

Active pallbearers were Paul Haberl, Gregg Vochoska, Christopher Kubacak, Ryan Nemec, Kirk Whitehead, Mark Tobola, and James Snelson, III. Honorary pallbearers were Kenna Whitehead, Susan Haberl, Katie Kubacak, Lindsay Nemec, Madison Haberl, Raegan Whitehead, Meredith Haberl, and Tara Haberl.
