Roy "Jack" Morris
Roy "Jack" MORRIS, 73, R.R. 2, Akron, died at 11:50 p.m. Thursday in Woodlawn hospital, where he had been a patient for the past five weeks.
Born Aug. 10, 1890 in Alabama, he was the son of Monroe and Amanda WHITTENBERGER MORRIS. He was married May 12, 1916 to Loa HALDEMAN, who survives.
Mr. Morris was a farmer and livestock dealer. He inaugurated horse shows at Akron and at one time was a horse buyer for Hagenbeck-Wallace, Ringling Brothers and Cole Brothers circuses. Mr. Morris had spent most of his life in the Gilead and Akron areas.
He served two terms as a Fulton county commissioner and was president of the Akron Fair Board for many years.
Mr. Morris was a member of the Akron Masonic lodge, Warsaw Kinghts Templar, Manitou Shrine club, Mizpah Temple of Fort Wayne and Manitou Moose lodge.
Surviving with the wife are three daughters, Mrs. Robert (Betty) TOMBAUGH, Gary; Mrs. Al (Kathleen) JENNENS, Akron, and Mrs. Tom (Suzanne) GAST, Akron; a son, Jack D. [MORRIS], LaHabra, Cal.; ten grandchildren; five brothers, James [MORRIS], Argos; Joe [MORRIS], Roann; Walter [MORRIS], Mishawaka; Fred [MORRIS], Sarasote, Fla., and Robert [MORRIS], Plymouth, and two sisters, Mrs. Owen (Retha) MALADY, South Bend, and Mrs. Clifford (Nona) TILLET, Michigan City. A brother and three sisters preceded in death.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Sunday in the Akron Church of God with the Rev. Forest CARLSON officiating. Burial will be in the Akron cemetery. Friends may call at the Haupert funeral home in Akron after 7:30 p.m. today until noon Sunday, and at the church one hour before services.
