Obituary for Raymond Odell Cohen, Sr., published in the Daily Leader, Brookhaven, MS

"Raymond Odell Cohen, Sr., 67, resident of Brookhaven since 1921, died Sunday at 12:25 p.m. in University Hospital, Jackson, following an extended illness. Mr. Cohen was a member of a longtime, well known Brookhaven family and had been associated with Protective Service Life Insurance Co. and Frank H. Hartman Funeral Home as accountant.

The son of the late Alonzo Clifford and Bessie Mae Davis Cohen of Brookhaven, Mr. Cohen was born in Stone County and moved with his family to Brookhaven in 1921. Mr. Cohen attended Auburn University and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. He was associated with Hartman Funeral Home as accountant in 1935 and was later with Earl E. Smith Automobile Agency until 1959 when he assumed the office of accountant with Hartman Funeral Homes, the position held by his father for many years. In 1961 he became a member of the board of directors of Protective Service Life Insurance Co. and served as secretary-treasurer of the organization, the position he held at the time of his death. He was a charter member of the Brookhaven Noon Lions Club. Mr. Cohen was a member of First United Methodist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Mrs. Marguerite Boone Cohen, Brookhaven; a son, Ray Cohen, Jr., Lexington, S.C.; a daughter, Mrs. Caroline Cohen Passmore, Brookhaven; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Suzanne Cross McMillan, Pearl, Miss.; a brother, Dr. Clifford Cohen, Athens, Ga.; a sister, Mrs. T.E. (Virginia) Applewhite, Brookhaven. He is also survived by four grandchildren.

Services for Mr. Cohen will be held Tuesday, Sept. 1 at 2 p.m. from Hartman-Henderson Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Tommy Gilbert and Rev. George Currey officiating at the rites. Burial will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Active pallbearers will include James F. Robinson, Dr. Jim C. Barnett, Gerald Kees, Bruce Richardson, Bob Stringer and Clifton Crane. Members of the Brookhaven Noon Lions Club will serve as honorary pallbearers.

Visitaion hours at the funeral home will begin at 5 p.m. today."
