Emmitt Clarence Black was a graduate of Greenfield High School, Blaine County, Oklahoma. He earned a Bachelor of Arts degree at Southwestern State University, Weatherford, and a Master of Education degree from the University of Oklahoma. He taught in the Oklahoma public school system for 43 years, the last 26 years in Yukon, where he headed the Math Department and was Yukon's Teacher of the Year in 1970. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Yukon, the Oklahoma Education Association, and Elks Lodge 417. He was a loyal caregiver for his elderly parents, sisters Rosie and Pearl, and brothers Eber and Lewis, and was a devoted uncle, mentor, and friend to many.
