Mary Salinda Black, known as "Linnie" was named for her maternal grandmother, Mary Hannah Lester Hathaway, and her paternal grandmother, Salinda Harper Phares Black.

In June 1910, shortly after her family moved from Kansas to a farm in Oklahoma, Linnie, then 13, passed away in an accident while driving a hay wagon back from a field. The horses spooked, and she was pulled under. The photo provided here was taken when she was 3 years old.
