Samuel Montgomery one of the oldest residences of Macon county died Friday at the family residence . His death was caused by acute gastritis. He was 66 years old Dec. 18. He had been in poor health for the last 12 week. His condition was not considered serious until a week ago when acute gastritis developed. He became bedfast and his condition grew steadily worse.
He was one of the best known retired farmers in the county. He was born Dec. 18, 1844 on a farm north of Decatur and his entire life was spent in Macon county. He was eminently successful as a farmer and prospered accordingly. Sixteen years ago he retired from active work and moved from his farm near Kenney to Decatur and this has been his home ever since.
He is survived by his wife and three children, they are E. J. Montgomery and Misses Jessie and Effie, all of Decatur. He also leaves three sisters, Miss Emily ,Mrs. Mary Hanks and Mrs. Lafayette Gulick, all of Macon county and two brothers, J.F. Montgomery and P.H. Montgomery both of Decatur.
The funeral will be held Sunday at the residence with burial in Greenwood cemetery.
