Mary Montgomery is the daughter of William F Montgomery. She married Alexander Grayson Hanks on Jan. 16, 1862 by Rev J. S. Stamper in Macon County, IL. They had 3 children.

Mrs. Mary Catherine Hanks, widow of Alexander Grayson Hanks, died at 11 o'clock Wednesday night at the Montgomery home place, three miles north of Decatur, where she had lived for the last forty years. She was eighty-four years old last May. Her death was due to complications, incident of old age. Mrs. Hanks' maiden name was Mary C. Montgomery. She was the daughter of William and Amelia Montgomery, pioneer settlers of Macon county. She was born May 11, 1839, just two miles north of Decatur, on the Bloomington road, and had resided in Macon county all her life. She was known to all the old residents of the county and was a life long member of the Baptist church. She is survived by a daughter, Mrs. J. M. Mumbower of Springfield, and a son, W. G. Hanks, residing in Austin township. There is one grand-daughter, Miss Pearl Hanks. The funeral will be held at 1:30 o'clock Friday afternoon at the Boiling Springs church. The burial will be in the Boiling Springs cemetery.

Mary C.Hanks,widow of Alexander Grayson Hanks and for more than 80 years a resident of Macon county died Wednesday night in the Montgomery home, three miles north of Decatur and within two miles of the farm where she was born. Her death was due to the infirmities of age.
Mary C.Montgomery was born May 11,1839 on a farm two miles north of Decatur.Her parents were William and Amelia Montgomery, members of pioneer families of Macon county, where all of her life had been passed. She was a member of the Baptist church.
She leaves her daughter, Mrs. J. M. Mumbower of Springfield and one son, W.G. Hanks of Austin township, one granddaughter, Miss Pearl Hanks and two sisters, Mrs.Emily Montgomery and Mrs.Martha Gulick.
Funeral services will be conducted in Boiling Springs church this afternoon at 1:30 oclock. The burial will be in Boiling Springs cemetery.
