John Franklin McCleskey was born Monday, July 7, 1873, per WWI Registration, in the Oakville Community of Lawrence County, Alabama, to James Edward "Jim" McCleskey and Mary R. Burks McCleskey.

He married Savannah Etta Hicks, a daughter of Jim E. Hicks and Elizabeth Anders Hicks. ~ McCleskey Rites Slated Friday

Last rites for John F. McCleskey, 78, farmer who died at his home on Moulton 2 at 12:15 yesterday afternoon, will be held at 2:30 o'clock tomorrow afternoon at Johnson's Chapel church, with Rev. Kyle McWhorter officiating. Burial will follow in the adjoining cemetery, Brown of Moulton directing.

A lifelong resident of Lawrence County, Mr. McCleskey had been ill for some time.

He is survived by four daughters, Mrs. Virdine Woods, Mrs. Vergie Long, Mrs. Johnny White and Mrs. Ceree Woods; two stepdaughters, Mrs. Lula Rhodes and Mrs. Ida Crow; a son, Travis McCleskey; two half brothers, Erbie McCleskey and Hubert McCleskey; 22 grandchildren; and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be J. P. White, Floyd White, (Rufus?) Calvin White, Erwin Long, C. D. Cowart and Junior Stricklin.
