Mary Passer, who had been in failing health approximately three and one half years and had been bedridden the past six months, passed away at 3:25 pm Sunday, October 10, at the age of 93 years, 7 months and 5 days.
Mary Gehns, one of eleven children was born to Christian and Catherine Gehns in Wisconsin on March 5, 1861. She came to Minnesota with her parents in a covered wagon at the age of 2 years and the family settled on a farm southeast of Wells, where she attended country school and grew to womanhood.
On November 10, 1877 she was united in marriage to Wilhelm F Passer, who on October 16, 1915, preceded her in death. They purchased a farm in Foster Township, where they resided until October 16, 1912, at which time they retired and moved to Wells.
They became members of the Wells Evangelical U B church by transferring their memberships from the Rice Lake Church.
Mrs. Passer was the oldest member of the church at the time of her death. She was a member of the Ladies Aid Society (WSWS) and also of the WCTU and attended regularly as long as her health permitted. She was the mother of seven children, four of whom preceded her in death.
Those surviving are Edwin of Alden, Bertha Calkin of San Diego, Calif. and Hattie Brunn of Wells; also 20 grandchildren, two having passed on; 34 great grandchildren, one sister, Mrs. John Kirschner, and three brothers, Henry and Alfred Gaines of Wells and the Rev. Will Gaines of Big Stone, SD
