THRELKELD - Grace Edith Threlkeld, daughter of Perry P. and Matilda Elizabeth Prather Bowman, was born March 17, 1888 on a farm located near the eastern boundary of Lucas County, Iowa. She passed away at Iowa Methodist Hospital in Des Moines, on June 16, 1968.
Grace was educated in Lucas County and graduated from Blackburn Seminary.
She was united in marriage to Herman L. Threlkeld on June 30, 1905, and they resided on the farm east of Chariton and made that their family home until the time of their departure. Her husband preceded her in death in 1955, a few months prior to their 50th wedding anniversary.
Two children survive: Mrs. Dorothea De Nio of Des Moines and Kenneth E. Threlkeld of Chariton; two grandchildren, Dennis De Nio and Marly Ann Davis, both of Des Moines; a great-grandson, Brian Allen Ashby, of Des Moines; as well as a number of nieces and nephews on both sides of the family.
Grace was a member of the local chapter of the Eastern Star and the White Shrine and spent many active years of devoted service in these organizations. She was also very interested in rural activities and the country schools. She was a member of the First Methodist Church of Chariton.
Grace was a dedicated wife and loving mother. She was devoted to her family and their welfare and will be greatly missed by all those she leaves behind.
Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Paul C. Ellis at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, June 19, 1968 at the Beardsley-Fielding Funeral Home. Interment was in the Chariton Cemetery.
