CONWAY — Bennie Clarence Barnes, 62, died Saturday in his home. A native of Northampton County, he was a son of the late Clinton and Mrs. Catherine Wheeler Barnes and the husband of Mrs. Mary Barnes. He was a member of Conway Baptist Church and a retired farmer and merchant.
Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Mrs. Ina B. Turner of Suffolk, VA; four sons, Clarence Barnes of Weldon, Bennie E. Barnes of Newport News, VA, Jeff C. Barnes of Suffolk, VA and Bennie C. Barnes Jr. of Conway; a stepdaughter, Mrs. Larry Bolton of Suffolk; a sister, Mrs. Carrie B. Jordan of Ahoskie; two brothers, W. H. "Donnie" Barnes of Conway and Collin Barnes of Newport News, VA; and seven grandchildren.
Funeral services were performed Sunday at 3 p.m. in Conway Baptist Church by the Rev. Russell Wimmer. Burial was in Conway Cemetery.
