OBITUARY
Melvin M. Jewell
Ill for a week with pneumonia, Melvin M. Jewell, aged seventy-six, succumbed at 8:45 Wednesday morning at his home at Westville.
Born at Milford January 17th, 1862, a son of Myron and Janette (Reid) Jewell, he married Miss Grace L. Gano at Westville, August 11th, 1886. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. N. B. Ripley, who attended their golden wedding anniversary in 1936. All three have died within the past fifteen months, Mrs. Jewell in January 1937 and Mr. Ripley in February, 1937.
Except for a few years when he lived in the west, Mr. Jewell spent his entire life as a resident of Milford or Westville, where he leaves many friends. His occupation was farming, and he served several years as a fire warden. He formerly, belonged to the Macabees Lodge of Milford.
Surviving are three sons, Ernest M. and Kenneth W. Jewell of Westville, and Harold G. Jewell of Schenectady; four daughters, Mrs. Fred Ottoway of Westville, Mrs . Webb Chamberlain of Milford, Mrs. Charles Alexander of Franklin, and Mrs. Kenneth Webb of
Cooperstown; a brother, Eugene Jewell of Westville; ten grandchildren; two great- grandsons, Richard, son of Mr. and Mrs. Clarke Jewell of Westville, and Peter, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart Chamberlain of Oneonta: and several nieces and nephews.
The body was removed to the Tillapaugh funeral home at Schenevus, but will be taken back to Westville Saturday, when the funeral will be held at 2 o'clock from the residence. The Rev. Walter A. Miller of Westville will officiate, assisted by the Rev. William I. Brown of Milford. Burial will be in the cemetery at Westville.
