BORN IN SULPHER FORK, ARKANSAS.
One of the brothers who founded the town of Peacock in Stonewall County. Land speculator/Farmer/Grocer and was first postmaster in the town of Peacock. Wife was Margaret "Maggie" Roden Wilson. Also carried mail on a rural route back in the 1920's.
His father, John E. Peacock and his grandfather Alfred Peacock are in the Larramore Cemetery, Cleburne, Johnston, TX. His family came to Texas at the close of the Civil War.

Bill and Maggie had 12 children:
Minnie, Lafayette, Alfred Lee, Wilmer Porter, Ella Peacock CARDELL, and her twin sister Della Peacock (buried here at Petersburg) Matha Jane, John Erwin, William Victor, Otis Green, Elva Verga, and Morgan.

Bill Peacock and two of his brothers, Brack and Morgan were the founders of the small town of Peacock, Stonewall County, Texas. There is a historical marker there at the town square telling the story.

Bill Peacock had no children by any marriage, except for Maggie
Bill's 2nd marriage to Nancy Hanks was a very short one. She ran off
with her sisters husband, and the sister, Susan (C. A.) Whisenant, was
the third wife of Bill Peacock. There are marriage records for this last
marriage, Feb. 29, 1928 at Brownwood, Tx. He was married to Susan at the time of his death. We were told that she had 2 daughters from her
previous marriage. Buddy Peacock related some of this to me at the 1986 Peacock, Texas Reunion. More on Bill Peacock and his life will be added to this at a later time.

He was known as "Bill"
Death certificate says Anjina Pectoris.....
Records state that J. W. Bill Peacock died very suddenly, at 9:am. The
family says "under suspicious circumstances." He had come home to take a nap, (more likely he came home for lunch or breakfast) while drinking his coffee, suddenly became sick. The doctor was called, and even tho he thought Bill would be ok, Susan had her daughters brought home from school, "because Bill is going to die." That he was buried in a borrowed suit of clothes. He had promisory notes out for $2300.00, and land in Petersburg, and Peacock valued at $9500. Bill, it seems, was a little too generous and good hearted. Bill Peacock, being one of the first merchants in the area, was one of the first postmasters for Peacock.
He also was a mailman in the Petersburg area. Earnest Herring was his
lawyer, and had filed claims on behalf of Bill before he died. Herring
was to get half of what was collected, after expenses.
I was told by Boug Peacock (who was there) that his widow, Susan E. , shed no tears when he died, and that she and that her two daughters from a previous marriage had longed to return to their hometown of Brownwood, Tx., and at the funeral, did not even try to hide their joy at being able to return to Brownwood. (If I am conveying the feeling that Susan and her daughters were not well thought of by the Peacock family, well, so be it.)
I was also told by one of Bill's son's that Susan E., (third wife) and
Bill's first wife, Nancy were sisters ( Hanks) , and that Nancy ran off
with Susan's husband C. A. Whisenant.
The family group, The Western Division of the Peacock Family Association placed a beautiful marker on his and his daughter, Della's graves there in Petersburg, Texas. They also enclosed the Peacock plot with a cement curb.
