Elsie I. Bigg, 87, of Kearney, Neb., died May 5, 1996, in Kearney.
Visitation and viewing will begin at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 8, at Chaney-Walters Funeral Home. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Riverside Cemetery with the Rev. Mike Dexter officiating.
Mrs. Bigg was born April 4, 1909, to Ernest and Nellie (Turner) Shumway in Canon City. The family moved to Anaheim, Calif. Her mother and sister died when she was six years old, and she and her father returned to Colorado. They settled in Trinidad, moving to Peetz in 1918 after her father remarried, and then to Sterling.
She married Virgil Bigg on June 25, 1932, in Simla. They lived in Sterling for 63 years. She was a member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Order of the Eastern Star, and was a past High Priestess of the White Shrine.
She is survived by three Sons, Stanley and wife Susan of Kearney, Jim and wife Barbara of Hot Springs Village, Ark., and Garry and wife Sally of Lexington, N.C.; a brother, Ernest Shumway of Sterling; a sister, Althea Acre of Security; eight grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband in July, 1985, and by her sister Helen. Memorial contributions may be
made to St. John's Center, 3410 Central Ave., Kearney, Neb.
