Catherine was born the fourth child of Jacob Hunsaker Jr. and Polly Luce. Her mother died when she was only 5 years old and she was raised by her step-mother Elizabeth Brown. She married John W. Wigle on 19 Jul 1832 in Adams county, Illinois. They had three children in Adams county, Illinois, before coming to Oregon. They crossed the plains by wagon train and the family arrived in Oregon Territory on the 21 September 1952. They settled in the Diamond Hill area in Linn county, between the cities of Brownsville, Harrisburg, and Halsey where their fourth and last child was born there.

Obituary

Mrs. Catherine Wigle died about noon today at the residence of her daughter, Mrs. W. H. Taylor, in this city [The Dalles], aged about 79 years. She crossed the plains with her husband in 1852 and settle in Linn County where the remains will be taken tomorrow for burial. For many years she lived in the Willamette Valley, but recently moved to Eastern Oregon to have the care of a daughter nursing during her last days. Her death was caused by old age, although she had been in poor health from heart troubles for some time. Her husband had been dead for about thirty years, and was buring at Halsey, Linn County. She leaves three sons and one daughter -- William Wigle, Jacob Wigle, D C Wigle, and Mrs. W H Taylor. Mrs Wigle was a Christian and lived an exemplary character, loved by her children and respected by all. THE DALLES T M of April 24, 1893.
