He is the son of the late Robert Bassley Roberts and the late Lottie (Edwards) Roberts. Mr. Roberts was also preceded in death by two brothers: Buck Roberts and Harry Dewey Roberts and two sisters: Mabel Roberts Day and Myrtle McDaniel.
Mr. Roberts is survived by his wife of 60 years Mrs. Hazel James Roberts; four children: Todd Roberts and his wife Robyn of Jackson, Ms., Shad Roberts and his wife Sandy of Natchitoches, Gregg Roberts and his wife Brenda of Baton Rouge, and Jennifer Paulsen and her husband Larry of Marietta, Georgia; ten grandchildren: Amber, Tristan, Chelsea, Paige, Kris, Anna Rachel, Russell, Payten, Chloe, and Bryce. He is also survived by two brothers: Sherman Roberts, and John Edwin Roberts and one sister: Joeann Garner.
Mr. Roberts enjoyed antique cars and was an accomplished metal worker. He fully restored many antique cars from the frame up. He loved his Avanti and was particularly fond of all Studebaker models. One could find him any day cruising around Winnfield in one of his prize winning restorations. Additionally, Mr. Roberts was quite adept at designing and constructing ornamental iron works. Many of his ornate works can be found througout Louisiana. Mr. Roberts loved to ride his Harley Davidson Motorcycle. He also, in recent years, collected many clocks, of which he had quite a display, at the time of his death. Mr. Roberts was a U.S. Army Veteran of World War II and a member of New Jerusalem Baptist Church.
Funeral services will be held at 10:00 a.m. Thursday, in the Southern Funeral Home Chapel with Reverends Craig James and Kenneth Tarver officiating. Burial will follow in the New Jerusalem Cemetery near Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield. Friends may visit with the family in the funeral home on Wednesday from 5:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. and on Thursday from 8:00 a.m. until time of services.
Pallbearers will be: Mike Spangler, Barkley Roberts, Ralph Roberts, Howard Pardue, Chris Allen, and Bruce Thomas.
Honorary pallbearers will be: Gary Spangler, Winston Roberts, Bobby Day, Rodney Guilliams, and Dorman Guilliams.
