Hazel James Roberts, 84, of Winnfield, passed away Sunday, May 12th 2013, at the Jefferson Manor Nursing Home in Baton Rouge, LA. She was the daughter of the late Charlie James and the late Veva James. Ms. Roberts is preceded in death by her late husband R.W. "Buddy" Roberts. Ms. Roberts was also preceded in death by five brothers: Casey James, Jessie James, Arthur "Doodle" James, Huey James and Troy James. Two sisters preceded Ms. Roberts in death, those being Thelma "Bill" James Horne and Vernell James Poisso.
Ms. Roberts is survived by four children: Jennifer Roberts Paulsen(Larry) of Marietta, GA; Gregory Roberts(Brenda) of Baton Rouge, LA; Todd Roberts(Robyn) of Jackson, MS; Shad Roberts(Sandy) of Vidalia, LA. She is also survived by ten grandchildren: Amber Paulsen of Marietta, GA; Tristan Roberts(Molly) of Houston, TX; Chelsea Roberts of New York, NY; Paige Roberts of Baton Rouge, LA; Kristina Roberts of Dallas, TX; Anna Rachel and Russell Roberts both of Jackson, MS; Chloe Roberts of Houston, TX; Payten and Bryce Roberts both of Vidalia, LA; and one sister Sybil Guilliams of Winnfield.
Ms. Roberts was the Head of the Nursery Department for many, many years at her beloved New Jerusalem Baptist Church. Ms. Roberts enjoyed reading her Bible daily, crafting, an excellent seamstress and a pretty good cook (although she didn't enjoy…and she was not bashful about telling you). Although mom was affectionately known throughout her extended family as "that stubborn thing" she was a wonderful mother, devoted wife and most faithful servant to her Lord.
Visitation will be held Wednesday, May 15th, 2013 at 5:30 p.m. and funeral services at 10:00 a.m. Thursday morning, both at Southern Funeral Home's Chapel, Winnfield, LA. Officiating will be the Reverend Craig James and Reverend Kenneth Tarver. Burial will follow at the New Jerusalem Cemetery near Winnfield under the direction of Southern Funeral Home of Winnfield.
Pall bearers will be Bruce Thomas, Stanley James, Jerry McManus, Dorman Guilliams, Gary Spangler and Winston Roberts.
