Harvey Kress of Belleville, Kansas lost his life in a traffic accident on his way home from work Wednesday evening, November 7, 1973, in Republic County, Kansas. He died at the age of 33 years, 10 months and 27 days. Harvey Lee, son of Henry Raymond and Loretta Agena Kress, was born at Sterling on December 10, 1939. He attended Sterling High School. On November 9, 1959, he enlisted in the United States Army and was discharged on November 3, 1962. He was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars, Eagles, and the National Guard. He located in the Scandia, Kansas community six years ago and being an expert mechanic he operated the Kress Repair Shop in Scandia until the day of his death.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon November 10, at 2:00 p.m., in the Amana Lutheran Church at Scandia, Kansas, with the Rev. Arnold A. Wuertz officiating. Mrs. Glenn Larson was organist. Vocalists were Mr. and Mrs. Loren Hedstrom, who sang "Amazing Grace" and "In Heavenly Love Abiding." Pallbearers were John Freed, Larry Johnson, Eugene Peters, Douglas Sederlin, Eugene Sederlin and Dennis Wallin. Interment was in the Belleville cemetery, with the graveside service in charge of Det. 2 Co. D169 Spt. Bn of Belleville National Guard.
