Joseph Clarkson Jaques was the son of Luamy Clarkson and Samuel Clark Jaques. Born March 13, 1843 on Section 31 of Hanover Township in Butler County, Ohio. When still a young man the family migrated to Mt. Carmel, Springfield Township, Franklin County, Indiana in about 1849. Joseph served in the Indiana Volunteers 68th Regiment Co. H, date of muster August 19, 1862. He was discharged due to disability May 27, 1863. His father Samuel died in Franklin County November 2, 1856, and after the war the entire Jaques clan moved to Boone County, Indiana. He met and married Alithia Bee Belles of Boone County on December 7, 1883. They were the loving parents of son Samuel Clair Jaques, born August 31, 1884 and a daughter, Nellie Fern Jaques, born January 26, 1886, both in Thorntown.
