Anna Elizabeth Ewald was born in Germany March 20, 1837, and died February 3, 1902, at her home in Russell.
She came to America in September, 1857. She was converted and united with the M. E. church of Bushnell, Ills., in the year 1858, under the ministry of Rev. John Walters.
On January 15, 1860, she was married to George Lutz. In March, 1884, they moved to Iowa, and have since lived in and near Russell. She was the mother of six children, four of whom survive her, Nicholas G., of Chariton, George L., of Rapid City, South Dakota, Mrs. Carrie W. Smith, and Mrs. Lizzie M. Blanchard, both of Russell.
Mrs. Lutz was a lovable, unassuming woman, always keeping foremost in her mind and work, the pleasures and comforts of her children.
For several years she has been unable to take much part in religious work owing to ill health, but hers was a true christian life, and leaves many friends to mourn her loss.
