GEORGE LUTZ
Last Saturday morning, Geo. Lutz, an old and highly respected citizen of Russell, fell down five steps of stairs and, striking his head, received injuries from which his weakened vitality could not rally and he passed away Wednesday, March 2nd, at 3:15 p.m.
The deceased was born in Wieseth, Bavaria, Germany, August 16, 1829. He grew to manhood in his native country, but in 1852 he came to America seeking a land more congenial to his ideas of life.
On January 15th, 1860, he was married to Elizabeth Ewald in Bushnell, Ill., where he lived until 1884, when he came to Iowa and has since resided near Russell. His beloved wife preceded him two years ago.
He has been an active and consistent member of the M. E. church for more than 45 years and died with all the joyous assurance of a true Christian.
Of the six children born to him, four are yet living. They are: N. G. of Chariton; Mrs. E. A. Smith, Russell; George L. of Rapid City, S. D.; and Mrs. E. B. Blanchard of Chariton.
During his long life of nearly 75 years he won the esteem of everyone and confidence placed in him was never betrayed. He was a worthy citizen and while he had rounded out his life to its fullness, his death is sincerly mourned by many relatives and friends.
