Hahn, 53, was the long-time owner of Steve Hahn's Lewis Flower Shop at Prospect and Stevens streets.
He was the current president of the Niagara County Extension Bureau and was active in 4-H his entire life.
Hahn was a retailer who was nationally recognized by his peers-so much so that he was called on to decorate the White House at Christmas time, which he did for a number of years during the Reagan and Bush administrations.
"It was a great experience, especially since I'm a history nut." Hahn once said of the experience. "And from year to year I'd drive the curators crazy with questions about where they had moved certain portraits or historical items.
"The Bushes are really down-to-earth people. Barbara Bush just loved to tell stories." he said. "Unfortunately, decorating just took too much time away from my business here."
In 1977, Hahn took over the Lewis Flower Shop, which was founded in 1867. He made a state-of-the-art business in the early 1980s by going on-line with the Florists Transworld (FTD) system.
In the mid 1980s, his shop was singled out from the more than 21,000 member florists in the United States and Canada and was designated a top 500 member.
A Lockport native, Hahn grew up in Wrights Corners, the son of Oscar Hahn and Mary (Wick) Hahn.
After he graduated from DeSales High School in 1965, he obtained his horticulture and floral design degree in 1967 from Alfred State College.
Hahn was a Navy Veteran, serving from 1967 to 1971 in Germany and Cuba.
In addition to the Cornell Cooperative Extension, Hahn had served on many different boards throughout the years. He was a past president and has held every office on the local level of the FTD District.
