Son of Jacob 'Washington' Abernathy and Rhua Allise 'Adline' (Eaker) Abernathy.
Married Etta J. Randolph in 1907.
Died at Fornfelt, MO; usual residence Kennett, MO. Fornfelt and Illmo were consolidated into Scott City in 1960.

S.A. Abernathy, 45, of this city, was instantly killed when struck by a Missouri-Pacific passenger train at Illmo Wednesday morning. Mr. Abernathy was driving north into Illmo when his car became stalled on the Cotton Belt crossing. Three witnesses said he was attempting to jump out when struck by the train.
Mr. Abernathy, a representative of the circulation department of the Stat-Times, had been living in Kennett for the past few years.
He was a member of the Baptist Church.
Mr. Abernathy if survived by his wife and five children, two married daughters and three sons ages 10, 17 and 20. He is also survived by his parents.
Funeral services were Thursday afternoon from the home and burial was in Oak Ridge Cemetery.
