Frank Dean, 66, 201 S. Cowgill St., long-time mayor of Carl Junction, died at 11:30 a.m. Sunday at his home after a long illness.

Mr. Dean was born Dec. 17, 1914, at Guymon, Okla. He had lived in Carl Junction since 1949. He had also lived in Oronogo and Webb City.

Mr. Dean, who was instrumental in bringing old-age housing to Carl Junction, had been mayor since 1967. During his term, the city doubled in size. He was a founder of the Carl Junction Lions Club, and a founder of the Carl Junction Youth Baseball. He was also a past member of the Chamber of Commerce.

Survivors are his wife, Mrs. Lorraine Dean; a son, Jerry Dean, Carl Junction; a daughter, Mrs. Janice Kay LeMaster, Fairland, Okla.; a brother, Hershel Dean, Sacramento, Calif.; two sisters, Mrs. Lela Wuellner, Webb City, and Mrs. Christine Sorg, Joplin, and two grandchildren.

Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at the Carl Junction Christian Church. Scott Springer, minister, will officiate. Burial will be in Mount Hope Cemetery.

Dad was a coal miner in Oronogo, owned an ice house, feed store, backhoe business, pick up service and restaurant in Carl Junction.

Dad was named for his maternal Grandpa Millard Franklin "Frank" Irons and his father Daniel Edward and grandfather Daniel Taylor Dean.
