Brigham Smith Dies Suddenly
Brigham Grant Smith, 79, died suddenly Friday, May 3, at the home of his daughter, Mrs. M. W, Kohlstaedt, at 2:30 p.m.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 p.m. at the Bryan Funeral Home chapel, with the Rev. Luther Cronrath of St. Paul Lutheran church, officiating. Burial was in the Colville Valley Memorial Park, Chewelah.
Mr. Smith was born at Flagstaff, Arizona, where he later worked in the silver mines near Virginia City, Arizona in the early years of mining, as a steel tool sharpener. He was married April 23, 1909 to Belle Loftis Hawkinson at Yarrington, Nevada. They moved to Boise, Idaho, where they remained 12 years, and in 1922 moved onto a farm near Colville. Mrs. Smith passed away in 1940. Since retiring in 1941 Mr. Smith has divided his time between Colville and Chewelah. He had been a member of the Mormon church during his childhood.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. M. W. (Kathryn) Kohlstaedt, Chewelah and Mrs. Hilda Whiteaker, Seattle, seven grandchildren, eight great-grandchildren and three sisters.
