Mrs. Phoebe Vilate Smith, 1038 Twenty-fifth street, Ogden, widow of David M. Smith, died at an Ogden hospital yesterday morning of heart trouble. Mrs. Smith's husband was found dead October 24th at the foot of a pole near the Riverdale viaduct, where he had been doing some electrical work.

Mrs Smith was born in Farmington, September 30, 1857, the daughter of Lot and Julia Smith, Utah pioneers. She was second vice commander of Abraham Lincoln circle, Ladies of G A R, and also had been an officer in the Mormon Battalion and the daughters of the Utah Pioneers.

Surviving are the following sons and daughters Henry A Steed, Ogden, Leo L Steed, San Francisco, Mrs Ruby Gibbs and Mrs LaVon Scharer, Ogden, M C Smith, Courtland, Calif, Mrs. Lucille Freberg, Los Angeles, Mrs. Donnetta Anderson, Susanville, Calif. Twelve grandchildren and two sisters, Mrs. Julia Wilson and Mrs. Bart Krumperman, of Los Angeles, also survive.
