Frederick C. "Fred" Raesler was the son of August Gustav Raesler and Augusta Woiczechowski.

He was born in North Amherst, (now Amherst), Lorain Co., OH.

He married Jessie Brown Whyte on 16 Sept 1913 at the home of the bride's parents in Elyria, Lorain Co., OH.

Fred was buried 4 Oct 1958.

NYC Engineer Retires After Long Service

March 30, 1953 will be a day long remembered by Fred C. Raesler, former Elyria now ling in La Grange.

Yesterday was not only Raesler's 65th birthday but was also the day that he left the cab of his locomotive for the last time, thus concluding 44 years of work with the New York Central Railroad.

Raesler hired on as a fireman on August 26, 1901 and in 1913 was promoted to engineer, pulling freight trainsman mostly between Youngstown and Elyria until the last eight years as yard engineer. He was always on the job and earned for himself the nickname of "Watchdog" because he was ready for his signal at all times.

Born in Amherst Raesler has lived in Elyria the greater part of his life. He and Mrs. Raesler moved to LaGrange just before last Christmas. They have on daughter, Mrs. Frank Blakeslee of Elyriaa nd a granddaughter Sandra Ruth Blakeslee.

Now that he has free time Raesler expects to devote many hours to his hobby, fishing. To help him along this line he was present some fishing tackle by his railroading associates as he competed his last run yesterday.

Mr. and Mrs. Raesler plan to spend a good deal of their time at their cottage at West Harbor, near Port Clinton.

After he had brought the last string of cars in yesterday afternoon Fred C. Raesler, center, was presented with fishing tackle by the men with whom he worked.

Raesler concluded 44 years of service with the New York Central Railroad yesterday, his 65th birthday.

Fred Raesler, 70, of 229 Forest Street, La Grange, a retired New York Central Railroad engineer, and a former Elyria resident, died at 8:10 a.m. today in his cottage at West Harbor, near Port Clinton, after several months illness.

Mr. Raesler was born in Amherst, but lived in Elyria for many years, moving to LaGrange in 1952. He was a member of St. Paul United Church of Christ and the Elyria Eagles Lodge.

Surviving are his wife, Jessie; a daughter, Mrs. Frank Blakeslee and a granddaughter, Mrs. Wesley Bauman, both of La Grange; two great grandchildren; a sister, Mrs. Charles Miller and a brother, Henry, both of Amherst.

The body is at the Sudro-Curtis Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements are incomplete.

Funeral services for Fred Raesler, 70, who died yesterday morning in West Harbor will be Saturday at 1:30 p.m, in the Sudro-Curtis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Walter Reif officiating. Burial will be in Ridgehill Memorial Park.
