Polk Forrest was the son of Gordon Forrest and Julia Hale. He spent his youth in both Illinois and Missouri, was a police officer in Missouri and spent 1893-1895 in Iowa before settling in Colusa Co. CA in the early 1900s.

In California, he worked for the Diamond Match Company in Chico before coming to Williams, where he was superintendent of the highway division.

His survivors at the time of his death were his wife Mary Jane Thompson Forrest, whom he married 24 Oct 1881 in Morgan Co., MO, Mrs. Cora Schaad of Willows, Mr. Ida Elbe of Williams, Mrs. Fern Andrews and Mrs. Helen McMullen of Sacramento, William Forrest of Willows, Albert Forrest of Boise, Idaho, Harry Forrest of Gustine and Dallas Forrest of Modesto. There also were a number of grandchildren, including Betty Ray McMullen who made her home with her grandparents.
