MRS. THOS. W. ESTES DIES AT SALIDA FRIDAY. "Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God."
"Again are we called upon to chronicle the passing of a beloved resident of Gunnison, one who was loved and respected by all who knew her.
"On Friday, March 17th, at 11:15 a.m., Mrs. Thomas W. Estes passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. W. R. Hathaway, Salida, Colo. Mrs. Estes had been ill the past eight months, suffering from complication of diseases, which was the cause of death.
"Mrs. Estes was 62 years, 2 months, and 3 days old. She was born in Springfield, Missouri, her maiden name being Lucinda Forest. Forty-eight years ago she was married to Thos. W. Estes, at Joplin, Mo. Later they came to Colorado, locating first at Leadville. Thirty-five years have been spent in Colorado, the greater of which time they resided in Gunnison. It was in our city that Mrs. and Mrs. Estes raised their family, four daughters and two sons, all now living and well known and respected citizens. They are Mrs. Lela Hazelhurst, Mrs. Bessie Wolfe, and Willett Estes, of Gunnison; Mrs. Carra Hathaway and Mrs. Maude Monberg of Salida; and Richard G. Estes, who resides in Lafayette, Colo. Besides her children, she is survived by her husband and two grandchildren, Gerald Hazelhurst and Ruth Wolfe.
"During the past winder Mr. and Mrs Estes made their home in Salida, hoping a lower climate might prove beneficial. During her long illnesses Mrs. Estes was tenderly cared for by her devoted husband and children and at regular intervals the children living here made trips to Salida to visit her. It was a great comfort to the sick lady, whose greatest pleasure during her whole life was to have her family around her. She cared nothing for society or gaiety, instead, home life and the companionship of her loved ones proved of more attraction. In spite of her suffering of the past few months and the long illness preceding her death, Mrs. Estes was ever patient and cheerful and with a pleasant smile for everyone. Her death brings a feeling of sadness to all who knew her and her friends were many.
"Funeral services were held from the Hathaway home, 646 C Street, Salida, at 2:30 Saturday afternoon, funeral director Stewart having charge of the arrangements. Rev. Burrett rector of the Episcopal church, conducted the religious services. Many beautiful flora tributes were heaped upon the casket, testifying to the love and respect in which the departed was held. Interment was made in Fairview cemetery near Salida, a very beautiful resting place of the dead.
"Sincere sympathy is extended to the bereaved ones who are left to mourn the passing of their beloved wife and mother."
