FOWLER FUNERAL THURSDAY.
Funeral services for Ruffin Fowler, 78, a farmer who lived five miles southeast of Emporia, will be held Thursday afternoon at 2 o'clock at the home. Rev. J. H. Sutton, pastor of the Grace Methodist church, will conduct the services. Interment will be made in the Fowler cemetery, east of Emporia.
Ruffin Fowler was born April 24, 1849, near Wilbur, Ind., the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Fowler. He was one of 16 children. He came to Lyon county in 1855, with his parents, in a covered wagon drawn by an ox team, driving all the way from Indiana. His father, one of the first settlers in Lyon county, took up a homestead five miles southeast of Emporia. As a boy Ruffin Fowler worked on the homestead and endured the privations of pioneer life. He was married to Miss Mary Parker, December 31, 1875, in Emporia. They moved to a farm near his father's homestead, where they lived. Ruffin Fowler was one of the most successful farmers in Lyon county. Mrs. Ruffin Fowler and six children survive. They are: County Commissioner Fred Fowler, who lives four miles southeast of Emporia; George Fowler, of Hutchinson; Percy Fowler, who lives 4-1/2 miles southeast of Emporia; Grace Fowler, Eugene Fowler and Justin Fowler, all of the home. One sister, Mrs. Mary Leatha Stack, Second and Neosho, and one brother, Dorris Fowler, 1428 Market, also survive. Ruffin Fowler was a member of the Grace Methodist church of Emporia.
