SABETHA -- Clara Steiner, 85, Sabetha, died Tuesday, March 16, 1999, at her home.

Mrs. Steiner and her husband farmed south of Sabetha for many years. She earlier had worked in Phoenix for five years and then for the Caterpillar Tractor Co. in Peoria, Ill., for several years.

She was born March 10, 1914, at Roanoke, Ill., the daughter of Adam and Martha Fischer Thomas. She had lived in Sabetha since 1974. Mrs. Steiner was a member of the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church.

She married Joseph William Steiner Sr. on Sept. 22, 1963, at Peoria, Ill. He died Aug. 22, 1994.

Mrs. Steiner also was preceded in death by a stepson, Loren Steiner, and a stepgranddaughter, Marla George.

Survivors include five stepsons, Joe Steiner Jr., Nebraska City, Neb., Dr. Lyle Steiner, San Marino, Calif., Norman Steiner, Longmont, Colo., Merlin Steiner, Hudson, N.C., and James Steiner, Overland Park; five stepdaughters, Lois Meyer and Florence Meyer, both of Sabetha, Mary Marti, Overland Park, Eleanor Weiss, Dundee, Ill., and Alma Jeanette George, Hollywood, Fla.; two sisters, Rose Steiner, Oakville, Iowa, and Ella Wagler, Burlington, Iowa; 35 stepgrandchildren; 70 stepgreat-grandchildren; and one stepgreat- great-grandchild.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church.

Burial will be at the Sabetha Cemetery.

Relatives and friends will meet from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Friday at Popkess Mortuary in Sabetha.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Sabetha Community Hospital Cardiac Rehabilitation Department Renovation or to the Sabetha Apostolic Christian Church Building Fund and sent in care of the mortuary.
