Blackfoot, April 10.-William John Orchard, 78, Fort Hall resident since 1919, died Wednesday in a Pocatello Hospital of a heart attack. he was born Oct. 31, 1874, in Ogden, Utah, a son of William Joseph and Sarah Ann Kemp Orchard, immigrants from England. When he was a small boy, the family engaged in farming near Lewiston. Later he worked with his father on railroad construction in Montana. He helped build the bridge across the Snake River at Eagle Rock, now Idaho Falls. He raised sheep in Wyoming, farmed and worked with irrigation developments in the Payette area, before settling in Fort Hall, where he farmed and rode ditch for the government on the reservation. He built his present
home in 1935. He married Norma Selina Sundstrom of Murray, Utah, May 28, 1926, in Pocatello. She survives with three sons and a daughter; Ray Orchard and Lee Orchard of Fort Hall; Dale Orchard, serving with the U.S. Navy; and Mrs Ruth Phillips, Idaho Falls; seven grandchildren, and the following brothers and sisters: Albert Orchard, Lewiston, Utah;
William J. Orchard, California; Harold Orchard, Salt Lake City; Earl Orchard, Twin Falls; Mrs. Ruth Levell, Tyhee; Mrs. LaVern Neeley, Blackfoot; Mrs. Brela (sic) Bowden, Moore, and Mrs Nita Vanfleet, Farmington, Utah. Funeral services will be conducted Saturday in the Fort Hall LDS Church by John A. Siler, bishop. Friends may call at the Sandberg Funeral Home until Friday evening and at the family home in Fort Hall from Saturday morning until service time. Burial will be in the Grove City Cemetery in Blackfoot.
