Norton, Va. - A 76-year-old pedestrian died of injuries in Park Avenue Hospital here after he was struck by a car a mile west of Norton's city limits about 7 a.m. today.
Highway Patrolman Douglas Myers identified the victim as Henry Stipes of Josephine.
The trooper said Stipes walked into the path of an oncoming car, driven by Alton P. Lawson, 32, of Coeburn, at the intersection of State Roads 23 and 610.
No charges have been placed yet. The investigation continues, Myers said.
Survivors include four sons, Bill Stipes, Route 1, Norton, Ed Stipes, Takoma, Wash., Frank Stipes, Glaymorgan; one stepson, Ernest Collins, Norton; two daughters, Mary Hensley, Blackwood, and Mrs Francis Collins, Norton.
