Robert Franklin Wood was born three miles southeast of Calico Rock on June 11, 1874 and departed this life November 14, 1959.

He was the fourth of seven children born to Allen Franklin and Mary Ann Wood. One sister, Mrs Maude Garner of Leachville, Arkansas survives.

His family moved to the Pineville area where he spent his childhood years. As a young man he joined the Methodist Church at Spring Creek.

On December 19, 1900 he and Mary Frances Smith were united in marriage at the Spring Creek Methodist Church. To this union six children were born.

After moving to Calico Rock in 1903, Mr Wood became active in the Calico Rock Methodist Church and gave unstintingly of his time and service to the church and community. He served 13 years as superintendent of the church school and a number of years as a teacher of the adult Bible Class, retiring because of failing health.

Mr Wood was well known throughout this part of the state as a merchant and salesman.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances in 1940 and a daughter, Esther Rue Wood, in 1956. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs Charles C. Ferrill of Calico Rock and Mrs Vernon A. Hook of Dallas, Texas; three sons, Curren G. Wood, Little Rock, Robert H. Wood, Baltimore, Md., and Auburn H. Wood of Stuttgart. Ten grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.

Funeral services were held November 16 at 10 a.m. at the Methodist Church with Miss Mary Chaffin of Paris, Ark., and Rev. Otho Strayhorn of Calico Rock officiating.

Active pallbearers were E. C. Rodman, Frank Killian, Ezra Martin, Perry Matthews, June Miller and Lelan Hively. Honorary bearers were A. H. Matthews, Z. M. Hutson, Orville Cheney, Kay Matthews, Neill Brooks, Dr. A. M. Grasse, Floyd Jackson, Fr. Noel Copp, W. J. Seay and Ferear Crutchfield.

Interment was made in the Spring Creek Cemetery.
