Services Held Wednesday For Miss Esther Wood

Miss Esther Rue Wood was born in Calico Rock, Arkansas, October 4th, 1904 and passed away at her home in Calico Rock during the early hours of the morning of December 3rd, 1956.

She was the daughter of Robert Franklin Wood and the late Mary Francis Smith Wood.

She became a member of the Calico Rock Methodist Church at the age of thirteen years and was a devoted member and active in all phrases of the church work. She taught a class of young people in the church for fifteen years.
Miss Esther was a teacher in the elementary department of the public schools. She taught in the Calico Rock school for several years and also in other schools in this section of the state.

She was an active member of the Calico Rock Garden Club and other worth while community organizations.
Her thoughtfulness of others was one of her many outstanding characteristics. She was particularly interested in youth of our community.

She is survived by her father, R. F. Wood of the home; tow sisters, Mrs C. C. Ferrill of Calico Rock and Mrs V. A. Hook of Dallas, Texas; and three brothers, Curren G. of Little Rock, Robert H. of Baltimore, Md., and Auburn H. of Stuttgart, Ark.

Funeral services were held at the Calico Rock Methodist Church at 10 o'clock Wednesday morning, December 5th, Rev. J. Clarence Wilcox pastor of the First Methodist Church at Brinkley officiated. Burial was at the Spring Creek Cemetery under direction of the Hall Funeral Home.

Active pallbearers were Frank Killian, F. M. Knowles, Ezra Martin, Fred Blankenship, John Calhoun and E. C. Rodman.
The honorary pallbearers were the members of the Calico Rock Garden Club, Frank Herd, Lyndell Ducker, Leland Hively, Austin Harris, Cecil Brumit, Ray Conyers, A. H. Matthews, Perry Matthews and Kay Matthews and J. O. Cheney of Little Rock.

Out of town relatives attending the funeral were: Mrs Bill Crews of Ferguson, Mo., Mrs A. K. Jernigan of Fort Smith, Ark., Mrs Vernon A. Hook of Dallas, Texas, Mr and Mrs Curren G. Wood and Mr Bob Ferrill of Little Rock, Mt and Mrs Auburn H. Wood and daughter Sandra of Stuttgart, Ark., and Mrs Wilma Langston of Salem, Ark.
