MRS. MARY CATHERINE TAYLOR
Another pioneer resident trekked the Long, Far Trail yesterday when Mrs. Mary Catherine Taylor passed away at her home where she had spent every year of her married life, at 697 D street. She had been a resident of San Bernardino for the past 68 years, coming here when but a girl with her parents and others of her family in an ox-team by the overland route and through the Cajon Pass. She was born in Illinois 78 years ago, her father being the well-known pioneer Alfred Benson. Her husband, J. W. Taylor, died many years ago.
Deceased had been in general ill health for the past three years, but only seriously so since last November. She had been growing worse for the past few weeks, the end coming yesterday. Mrs. Taylor will be missed among her many friends no less than in the home circle, for she was a quiet, home-loving woman, one to whom the joys of the family meant more than any outside interest, and her friendly sympathy will be missed by those who came often to visit her.
Surviving are three sons and four daughters: J. W. Taylor of Salt Lake City; T. C. Taylor of San Jacinto; and C. W. Taylor of San Bernardino; Mrs. Fred Seaman of San Diego, Mrs. George Cook of San Pedro; Mrs. Frank Perdew and Mrs. A. L. Finley, both of this city; also two brothers, Hiram Benson and Miles Benson of San Bernardino.
Funeral service will be held on Saturday afternoon, the time depending on word received from one of the sons in the east, to be announced later. Interment will be in the Pioneer Cemetery, with the Mark B. Shaw Company conducting.
