Excerpt from: Pioneer's Meeting
President Lord then called the attention of the Pioneers to the death of Alfred benson, which took place at his home, in this city on yesterday, at 6 o'clock a.m., and that he was a Pioneer in this county. On motion of Vice-President Holcomb the Society adjourned out of respect to his memory, and proceeded to his home on E street, between Ninth and tenth, there to attend the funeral of one of the old settlers and pioneers of this valley, Alfred Benson, who has lived a long, quiet and honorable life, and leaves behind him a large family to mourn his loss.
