Hiram Ellis Broom, LDS ID L2CV-P3J, was born in Union County, North Carolina, February 7, 1877; died of cerebral sclerosis and cardiorenal disease on his farm near Goldsboro, NC, October 18, 1937; buried in Elmwood Cemetery, Charlotte, NC, October 19, 1937.

He was the son of Mary Anne Richardson, LRW7-PKN (1853-1911), and James Madison Broom, LZ66-SFG (1841-1910).

He married June 24, 1900, Rosa Lee Jane Hargette, L2CK-MFR (1879-1954), daughter of Charity Ellen Thompson and Willie Melton Hargette.

Ellis worked as a foreman and mill overseer in a Charlotte, NC, cotton mill for many years. The moved to a farm near Goldsboro, Wayne Co., NC, in the 1930s.

They had eight children:
1. Albert Sidney Broom, b. 1901, d. 1978
2. Otis Lynn Broom, b. 1903, d. 1972
3. Ellis Glenn Broom, b. 1905, d. 1977
4. Howard Lee Broom, b. 1907; d. infancy
5. Willie Madison Broom, b. 1909, d. 1986
6. Mary Ellen Broom, b. 1911, d. 1978
7. Rosa Lee Broom, b. 1914, d. 1914
8. Louise Broom, b. 1918, d. 2012
