Bill completed one year of college and then served in the Army Air Force in World War Two. (Enlisted from Wayne County, NC, at Fort Bragg, NC, June 13, 1942). He was a Corporal in C Company, 30th Division, at La Junta, Colorado, in April, 1945.
Bill became a partner in the Carr Spring Company, Goldsboro, with his brothers Otis and Glenn. He was a partner with his brother Glenn in the Broom Motor Company, Goldsboro, a dealership for Jeep, Henry J., and Nash, which included a used car lot and garage.
In the mid-1960s, he was a partner in the fish market that opened on the site of the Broom Motor Company.
They had two children.
